Steps On How To Maintain Car Transmissions

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

One of the most important part of a car is its transmission. It is very expensive to have repaired. It is wiser to do regular maintenance than having to pay for repairs that are very easy to prevent. This article will teach you how to take care of automatic transmissions.

You should always regularly change the transmission fluid and the filter. Make sure that you check the transmission fluid level and the filter regularly. The normal color of transmission fluid is red, be wary when it already turned brown. You already need to replace the fluid and the filter when it is colored brown.

Make sure that the car has no leaks underneath as well. The automatic transmission will be affected if there are leaks. Regular checkup will prevent this.

Another way to maintain your car’s transmission is how you properly treat shifting. You must know that there is a right and a wrong way to shift gears with the transmission. You must only shift when the car is stopped. Do not shift from reverse to drive when your car is still moving because this will overstress the transmission clutch and gear.

Also do not overuse overdrive since this will put stress on your transmission. Make sure that you use overdrive during normal driving conditions only. There are exceptional cases that the engine may be running with low revolutions per minute in high speed. This will all depend on the car that you are using. Switch off overdrive when the car has heavy load or when you are on high terrain.

Simple Ways To Extend The Life Of Your Transmission

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Cars will function properly if the transmission used is in good working condition. It is imperative that you keep a regular scheduled maintenance on your car’s transmission so as to prevent it from experiencing any problems in the future. Once you will be doing your regular engine maintenance, it is of note that you know that there are a few things which needs to be added or replaced on your engine. Learn how to do proper car transmission maintenance through the methods provided below.

You should do regular maintenance on your transmission, whether it be automatic or manual transmission, so you should from time to time replace the oil on the engine as well as the oil filter. Your engine’s transmission oil is comparable to the blood of human’s, so it is really necessary to maintain it on a regular basis. You can basically do this within a few minutes.

First, remove the old oil by loosening the drain plug located underneath your car. Use a socket wrench and unscrew the plug so that the oil will start to drain from it. After doing that, you can then replace the drain plug back.

Afterwards, you need to remove the old and used oil filter with a tool called an oil filter wrench. The oil filter looks like a cylinder which is located under the hood of your car. You need to remember to place a little bit of oil on the oil filter gasket, especially around the ring so that it will not get stuck on the mount. And then you need to provision the new filter, and make sure that it is screwed on tightly and not loose. After fitting the oil filter, you can then proceed with filling the engine with oil, by replacing the oil filler cap and pouring on your preferred oil on the engine.

And finally, a good idea will be to add some special finished products together with your transmission oil. This will help in prolonging the life of your transmission. You may also install a transmission cooler which keeps the oil at a good, low temperature. You do this basically to make sure that your car’s transmission will be prevented from heating up too much and being damaged quickly.

These tips are really simple when it comes to making sure that you are doing proper maintenance on your transmission. You need to do this regularly so you can use car for a long time without having problems on the transmission. Otherwise, you will encounter problems which will lead you to spend more time and money getting your car fixed.

One of the best inventions ever was the automobile. I know it has been around for so long, but without it the world would be different. But what most people don’t know is that those cars can go bad and cost a ton of money. There are parts of the car that should be maintained in top condition.  These parts of the car if they were to break can really cost you a lot of money.  So here are some parts you really need to take care of.

The transmission is the first major part of your car you need to take good care of. This part of the car assists in changing gears. But it is also the part that usually costs a lot when it goes bad. It is one of the costlier repairs in my San Marcos auto repair shop.To preserve this part you have to make certain that it always has the best fluid in it. Also you want to be careful when changing gears.

The engine is the next part that is very costly to diagnose and repair. The engine is the most significant part of the car people look after because it is what makes the car run. In my San Marcos auto repair shop I always give advice to my clients to maintain their engine. The main way to do that is to make sure you always change the oil.  If you do that it will always be running clean.

Another expensive part to replace or maintain are the brakes. This may be a significantly small part of the car, but it is expensive.  In my San Marcos transmission repair shop this is another big repair that always comes in. Making sure that this part always has brake fluid will maintain it for a long time.  You also want to make sure you don’t ride your brakes and treat it well.

Those are some parts that when they break are too expensive to fix. So follow these instructions and rest assured your car will be maintained.

Caring for your car’s two essential parts

Friday, November 20th, 2009

We need them, that is one certain thing about cars in our society. People in many places can’t really survive without a car. Sure there are buses but in this busy life that makes it hard.It makes sense to know how to care for cars since they are very important in our lives. So we are going to inspect to key parts of our car that requires to be maintained regularly.

The engine is the first part that is very important to a car. This is like the heart of a car.  If you don’t take care of this part of your car it will die. So in my San Marcos auto repair service I make sure my customers know how important this part is.But it is painless also to take good care of. If a person wants to keep his car in a good shape he will just do regular tune ups and change oils.

Next car part that is essential is the transmission. This is critical in being able to drive your car. Any use of your car ceases if your transmission breaks down.  In my Carlsbad auto repair shop I see so many broken down transmissions.  Most of the breakdowns could have been avoided. The main way to do that is to make sure there is enough fluids always. And to make sure to gently change gears and doing such always at a complete stop.

Taking good care of your car’s transmission and engine isn’t that difficult as you can see.  All it takes is a commitment to make sure to care for that part of your car.  I tell all of my clients of my shop that doing a little maintenance now will save them a lot of money later. Those who are willing to do that end up having cars lasting a very long time without any problems. Those who don’t end up with cars that have to bring in many times due to problems.

Relation of auto problems and cold weather

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

There are a lot of changes as we go from summer into winter.  Obviously the weather changes. But did you know the fact that as the weather changes our cars are also affected? It appears that auto problems are more prevalent during the winter season. If you live in a place where the weather is usually harsh then your car can really break down.In this article we would be talking about how weather can affect your car’s performance.

In my San Marcos auto repair service the biggest cold weather problem are dead batteries. The reason for this is because when it is cold your battery has more work to do.  So because of that your battery runs a little harder. You use your headlights more because the daylight is shorter.  Plus the heater takes more energy than an air conditioner.  So the best thing to do is to make sure your battery is in good condition going into a harsh winter.

During a cold weather frozen fuel lines is another prevalent auto problem.  This isn’t a big auto problem for my Carlsbad auto repair service.  But this is a headache for car owners in cities with very cold weather.  What happens is if you let your car run low on fuel condensation forms.  Well when it gets cold that condensation freezes up and stops fuel from getting to the engine. So to prevent it from happening then you must not let your car run low on fuel.

Tire pressure is another one of those problems when it is cold.Cold weather can make tires lose their pressure.  This isn’t a good thing because low pressured tires get balder faster.  Bald tires won’t do well on icy conditions. So this is really a serious problem. So always check your tire pressure.

Those are common problems to cars in the cold.Doing the tips mentioned above will lead to prevention of some of those problems. And if the weather is very cold you do not want to encounter those problems.

Some things I always suggest for my customers of my Carlsbad auto repair shop is to do regular oil changes. This maintenance thing would greatly help your car.Changing oils regularly would keep your car running smoothly. It can aid in making the engine last longer. The funny thing is that changing oils is an inexpensive thing to do.So if you have your own car you must regularly change its oil.

Regular tune ups is another good thing to do for your car to avoid major repairs.  Tune ups are good because it helps your keep your engine running in top shape. And also, it can also be one way to detect problems with your car. These problems would go unnoticed if you do not bring it for tune ups.

How auto repair expenses really saves you money

Monday, October 5th, 2009

One thing that is happening in our economy is people are looking to save money.People in general are always in search of ways to save money.  One way that often gets overlooked is taking care of your car.  People think of it as an expense.  Instead they should look at it as an investment.  Because if they invest in taking care of their car it will save them money.  Plus there car will last longer which will save them more money. They will probably be able to hang onto their car for longer periods of time instead of getting a new one.

So here are a few things you can do to save money on auto repair expenses.  In my San Marcos auto repair service I always advise my clients to do regular tuneups. If someone is willing to take the time to change the spark plugs and also make sure theirs enough fluid it can be beneficial.  It will keep their car’s engine running smoother.  Plus it will help it run longer.

Another piece of advise I give my clients of my Carlsbad transmission repair service shop is to take care of their transmission. The transmission is a very costly in terms of trying to repair it.Plus that part of your car can be easily damaged.  So the best way to care for your transmission is to be easy on it when you drive.Don’t try to change the gears while the car is still moving.Another thing you want to be sure of is that their is enough transmission fluid.A ruined transmission in the end will cost thousands of dollars to fix for the car owner.  So the best thing is to take care of it now.

So those were a few things you could do to help your car to last longer. As previously stated you are going to spend the money now.Because if you do, in the long run you will be saving money.  It has been proven time after time with my clients of my Carlsbad auto repair service shop.Like most things when you have to fix something it will cost more then if you had spent money to not have it break.

Understanding some of the most common problems of our cars

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Car problems are something every one experiences. It does not matter what brand of car you have.  Cars are just machines and machines break down. But there are some ways you can prevent or delay this from happening. Or if not avoid you can at least lessen the problems they give you.

First of all is the low oil problem. This should not really be a problem. But some people out there with cars neglect this one basic fact that cars burn oil.Since it consumes oil it will run out if you don’t check and refill it.  That is one of my biggest pieces of advice for my San Marcos auto repair company.Be sure to check your oil levels all the time.If the oil is running low then fill your car up.It will make you prevent those costly engine damages brought about by running your car on low oil levels.

Another common problem that people always bring to my Carlsbad auto repair shop is check engine light problems. It usually about your emmision when your check engine light turns on.But do not get too nervous about this.  It isn’t something that will ruin your car.You should consult your car manual first and see what it exactly means.  You do want to eventually have a mechanic look at it but don’t worry about it for now.

Finally, people always complain about are clicking noises. This is mostly caused by rocks or debris that got stuck in the tires. You can just take some time off and go take a look at your tires. When you find it you can usually just use a pen or stick to pop it off of your tires. It is not something that can hurt your car.It justs makes you worry because it sounds like there is something wrong. And it can also be annoying.  But in the long run it isn’t something bad.

So those are some common problems. Here’s hoping that you would not get too worried the next time you encounter these problems.

Tips on how to save money on auto repairs

Monday, September 28th, 2009

One thing that people often don’t mind doing is maintaining their cars. They do not realize that this simple task can let them save a lot on auto repairs. And it will also enable them to avoid consuming time on repairs.Because taking your car in auto shops for maintenance takes a lot less time than taking it in for repairs.  So what can someone do to avoid extra expenses in auto repair?

Well, first thing you can do is to always keep your car tuned up. This is a very easy procedure to do.But it is a procedure that will make your car last for a long time.  In my San Marcos auto repair shop I always encourage my clients to bring their car in for tune ups.  It isn’t so I can make more money. But for them to not shell out a lot of money on auto repairs.

Another thing I always encourage is to always do oil changes. Being able to do this task will go a long way.It will enable the engine to run smoother and it can also make it last longer.Think of the oil as your car’s blood.  Just like a person, without blood, it won’t survive.A car with low oil levels can damage its engine severely.  I have seen it too many times where customers brought in a burnt out engine into my Carlsbad auto repair shop.  And it was all because they didn’t have sufficient oil.  So be smart and change your oil regularly.

Last thing I always remind my clients is that they regularly check the transmission of their cars. The transmission is a part of a car that is expensive to replace just like the engine.  But having it last long is easy. You just need to take care of it regularly. In my transmission repair shop, I always say to my clients that they should always watch their transmission fluid.  Letting this run down can ruin their transmission.

So there you have it.Performing these simple things will enable you to save a lot on money on repairs.Plus your car can last for a long time.

Ways to avoid transmission problems

Friday, September 25th, 2009

One of the most important parts of your car is the transmission. Not only is it one of the most important it is also one of the most expensive.  If you have to get it repaired it is very costly.  So it is one of those parts of your car you want to make sure you take care of.  If you don’t it can cost you a lot of money. So, here are now some of the few tips to take care of your transmission.

One minor thing that is often overlooked but a major cause of transmission problems is the fluid.  Not having enough transmission fluid causes so much damage that I see it happen all the time in my San Marcos auto repair shop. What’s sad about this is the fact that it could have been avoided. All a person needs to do is to always check his/her car’s fluid levels.  If it gets low go ahead and add some more.It is easy to do and can also save you a lot of money.

Second thing you want to do is make sure to not shift gears while moving. You would be surprised at the number of cars that come in damaged in my Oceanside transmission repair shop from this problem alone.Do not be impatient and shift gears while moving. That is another thing that is very easy to do. But the inability to do it will damage your transmission bit by bit.

Finally, do not let your transmission overheat.  An overheated transmission will damage easily.  I always advise my Carlsbad auto repair clients to make sure to add a coolant type of additive to their fluid.  This helps the transmission run cooler.

If a person were to do these things, they can help their transmission last longer.Being unable to do so will hurt them financially in the long run.Since these things are so easy to do then it won’t be so much of a bother.
